MATP
Motor Activity Training Programme
MATP is a programme specifically designed to enable pupils with severe profound and multiple impairments and/or complex needs to participate in sports activity within Special Olympics (and now the School Games). Our sports day at Fairfield School gives pupils an opportunity to challenge themselves as well as showcase the core set of four skills they have been training on. These include:
1, Mobility (Gross Motor Skills)
2, Dexterity (Fine Motor Skills)
3, Striking (Upper Body)
4, Kicking (Lower Body)
Benefits to Pupils
• Increased physical activity that leads to improvement in motor skills, physical fitness and functional ability
• More opportunities to perform sports activities
• Development of a more positive self- image through skill acquisition
• Greater family interaction through sport involvement
• More opportunities to develop friendships with other athletes, family members and engage the community
