The peer massage programme is not intended as a therapy, rather it aims to promote the well-being of children in the knowledge that nurturing touch is a basic need and a powerful tool to help children develop healthy, well-balanced opportunities.
Research has shown that positive massage and touch can benefit children by:
· having the opportunity to learn and experience saying 'yes' and 'no' to touch
· a feeling of being individually perceived and acknowledged
· Improved concentration levels
· Increase in children’s self-esteem and confidence
· Increase in creativity
· Promoting relaxation
· Increase emotional health and well-being
· Improves children’s motor skills
